Performance Scholarships

The MiraCosta Music Department offers scholarships each semester to outstanding music scholars.

ALL MiraCosta students are eligible to apply for Music Department scholarships for the upcoming academic year. Interested students must:

Sign up for an audition at music.miracosta.edu and audition for a faculty panel. One repertoire selection and level-appropriate technical exercises will be expected. The next scholarship audition date is May 2020.

– Commit to full-time music major study (generally 7-8 units of MUS classes plus GE courses as needed) for the following Fall and Spring semesters, including registering for MUS 144 or 244 Individual Instruction through SURF.

– Be willing to help in the Music Department occasionally in other areas, write a thank-you letter to the appropriate donor, etc.

A 3.0 GPA and full-time student status (minimum 12 units) will make you eligible for all departmental scholarships, but some of the scholarships will be available to students who don’t meet those thresholds. The Music Scholarship Committee will notify all applicants of their status by the end of May.

For those students needing to work up to Music Major performance level, enrollment in MUS 145A (Performance Lab) on Fridays is strongly recommended. The department will subsidize mentoring for students who need help preparing for auditions and to be a Music major in the future.
