MiraCosta Symphony Orchestra

This class includes study and performance of orchestral literature from the 17th century to the present. Open to college students and community musicians wishing to develop a further understanding of music through symphonic ensemble playing. Members are expected to participate in rehearsals and concert presentations.

Students may also register for credit – MUS 170 – College-Community Symphony Orchestra.

Auditions are held the first day of class at 6:30 p.m. in OC 2406. (Oceanside Campus). See the Schedule of Classes for details or contact the instructor.

Supplies: Students must bring their own instruments and auxiliary equipment, pencil and paper.

MiraCosta Chorale

This choir relies on the participation of experienced choral singers from the community to join with credit students to sing college-level repertoire and receive instruction in vocal production, sight-reading, ensemble singing, diction, and musicianship. The study of secular and sacred music is included. Concerts, the product of the class, are often combined with orchestra.

Students may also register for credit – MUS 161 – Masterworks Chorale

MiraCosta Oceanside Jazz Orchestra (MOJO)

This course focuses on the study and performance of stage band literature from the Big Band Era to the present. Ensemble performance, musicianship, tone production, phrasing, articulation, breath control, sight-reading, and correct stylistic interpretations will be emphasized.

Students may also register for credit – MUS – Contemporary Big Band
