The Planets

The MiraCosta Symphony Orchestra will perform the massive work for full orchestra by Gustav Holst, The Planets, Op. 32.
This masterwork is one of the greatest known compositions of the 20th century and has been featured in countless movies,
television shows and commercials. Please join us for this unique orchestral experience that includes a multimedia
presentation. All music lovers and stargazers are welcome!

Frequency Sneak Peek

Get your first look at this year’s Frequency Vocal Jazz Ensemble! This preview concert will be the first on-campus
performance for the vocalists and instrumentalists and will prepare the choir to travel to San Luis Obispo to perform at the
Cuesta College Vocal Jazz Festival in November. Repertoire will be presented by the full choir and by selected soloists.
Directed by Matt Falker.

The Duruflé Requiem

A masterwork of the repertory and a favorite for choral singers, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem, Op. 9, evokes powerful emotions
by fusing contemporary compositional techniques with ancient Gregorian chants. The combined choral forces join with
orchestra for a performance event that is dramatic and poignant. Directed by Arlie Langager.

John Coltrane: Jazz Pioneer

Remarkably, the solo career of the legendary John Coltrane lasted only seven years. In that time, he created some of the most
unique, innovative, and forward-thinking music in the jazz canon. Professor Steve Torok, accompanied by the 2017 Downbeat
award-winning MiraCosta Jazz Collective, continues his ongoing lecture/performance series with an examination of the life
and music of this imaginative, restless, and pioneering jazz innovator.

Classical Music Majors & MiraCosta Chamber Choir

This special concert showcases solo student artists in the Music Performance degree program. Top vocalists and pianists
present classic repertoire, and the Chamber Choir performs songs from their season. Directed by Arlie Langager.

MOJO & the Jazz Collective in Concert

MiraCosta’s four-time Downbeat award-winning jazz bands share the stage for this two-night event. MOJO, the Downbeat
2017 Community College National Winner, and the Jazz Collective will perform music by renowned past and present
composers and arrangers, including student and faculty works. Directed by Steve Torok.

Frequency Vocal Jazz

The Frequency Vocal Jazz Ensemble will feature ensemble repertoire as well as performances by selected soloists. Many
songs will be selected from the Great American Songbook and performed either a cappella or with our student rhythm
section. Directed by Matt Falker.

Frequency Vocal Jazz with Jazz Music Majors

In addition to a second performance by the Frequency Vocal Jazz Program, our instrumental jazz majors will be featured on
this concert. Directed by Matt Falker.

MiraCosta College Choirs & Symphony Orchestra

Celebrate the season with the MiraCosta College choirs and symphony orchestra as we present two nights of music for the
season. This year, the Wednesday night concert will be held at California Center for the Arts, Escondido, and the Thursday
night concert will be held at MiraCosta in The Concert Hall. The stage will be set to entertain all ages, and audiences will enjoy
a variety of music from Handel’s Messiah to favorite holiday classics. This 75-minute concert is performed with no
intermission. Directed by Arlie Langager and Branden Muresan.
